Self Assessments: Course Analysis

Decent Essays
This course has been a great course to really take a look at yourself in the professional and personal aspects of life. The self-assessments have confirmed things I knew about myself and brought to light areas of opportunity. The Milestones like the SWOT and Personal Development Plan give you an opportunity to acknowledge those areas of opportunity and think of ways to turn them from opportunities to skills.
In the organization that I work in there are not areas of “conflict” per say but there are areas that I can improve upon while I am with this organization. The reason I say that there isn’t conflict is because I work directly under my bosses and any other people that work with us are independent contractors. I will be focusing on polishing

This week’s reflection assignment is to write about an event that occurred applying the “functional assessment model” (Cory, P. 262), Activating Event, Belief, and Emotional and Behavioral Consequence. I was searching for an activating event to explain and everything prior to the death of my daughter seems to be insignificant, and hard for me to actually remember. Therefore, after some hesitation, I choose to write about the day I was told my daughter had passed away. In addition, I will analyze the situation using the ABC’s of the Behavioral Therapy technique as described in Chapter 9 from the text book called, Theory and Practice of Counseling and Psychotherapy, by Gerald Cory.…

This course has taught me how to be more self-aware about what type of counselor I want to be and focus more on my values and accomplish what is important for me. This course also taught me how to be more flexible. Having a full-time job working 40 or more hours a week plus school; it was hard and still is, but having flexibility when I become a Mental Health Counselor will help me because I must be flexible to meet the client needs so we can establish a client/counselor relationship and maintain that relationship. Through this course, I learned about my professional identity, how to bring my personal values into Mental Health Counseling without losing myself, yet help the client without pushing my values on that person.…

I recently participated in a college course, Introduction to Psychology, at Misericordia University this past year. Taking this course has taught me to expand my comfort zone by interacting with students whom I would not normally associate with, and consider various ideas and opinions from other individuals. This course has also taught me that it is essential to communicate with teachers and classmates, as they often have different viewpoints and can help make improvements, whether it is to help you academically or as a person in general. During my stay at Misericordia University, there were times I had missed a few classes and unfortunately fell behind. Thankfully, my professor and classmates were more than happy to assist by sending the information I missed and explaining the details I did not understand.…

Conflict is part of life, and it is perhaps close to inevitable in the workplace. As you and your coworkers work toward developing new ideas and improving and marketing your products and services, clashes in personality, philosophy, and intent are not just expected, but almost inescapable. The good news is that conflict does not have to be a negative experience - if dealt with correctly, conflict can be a springboard for sharing ideas, developing strategies, and working together successfully as a team. However, if those involved do not know how to respond effectively to conflict, more problems will be created instead of solved.…
