In this short reader's response essay I will simply describe or explain why I think, feel, or believe that the short story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek" is the best from this week.

I think the short story “An Occurrence at Owl Creek” was the best from this week. This was the the best short story to me because it offers two different types of conflicts and it also has the best plot. It shows that the main character Peyton was experiencing issues within himself as well as with a few members of the Civil War Union.

The plot of this story is about a man by the name of Peyton Farquhar, he is a plantation owner. Throughout the story he is preparing to to be killed by members of the Civil War Union. According to page 88 in paragraph one. They planned on hanging Farquhar from a railroad bridge in Alabama during the American Civil War. This is where the first type of conflict comes in which is character vs. character. He, Peyton is having issues with the members of the Civil War Union. The members of the Civil War Union are tying to kill him he tries to get around it but, then he realizes that there is no way to avoid it. Once he realizes that he could not escape his death he tries

He becomes so worried about being freed and going home to his family. Peyton began to dream or fantasize about it. As shown on page 89 in paragraph four the main character Peyton says, "If I could free my hands, I might throw off the noose and spring into the stream. By diving I could evade the bullets and, swimming vigorously, reach the bank, take to the woods and get away home. My home, thank God, is yet outside their lines; my wife and little ones are still beyond the invaders's advance." This shows that Peyton Farquhar was having a moment or conversation within himself which is where the second type of conflict came in, character vs.
