When Ralph called an assembly, the boys discussed what or who is the beast. As he holds the conch to speak, Jack starts rebelling against the rules and ignores Ralph. Golding writes, "But Jack was shouting against him.’Bollocks to the rules! We're strong-we hunt! If there's beast, we'll hunt it down! We'll close in and beat and beat and beat and beat-!"(Golding 91). Jack's behavior in each chapter progresses forwards savagery, he started to ignore the rules and not fallow them anymore as Jack shouted, "Bollocks to the rules!" He rebel's against the rules Ralph has placed in the island. Jack does not care about rules anymore he wants to hunt, that all he started to care about "we hunt"! He believes that they are "strong" enough to hunt down the beast and said "We'll hunt it down". This is a normal reaction to a threat, to hunt it down so they are safe on the island, but as Jack describes how they are going to "hunt" it ”beat and beat and beat and beat-!". He shows excitement in these lines. Jack enjoys the thought of beating the beast to death. These thoughts are not civilized and is a thing a carless savage would do. …show more content…
When Ralph called an assembly to put things in order because things are out of place. He states that they need to try harder to get rescued of the island and not make hunting their main priority as the hunters are trying to do that. Ralph states, “‘the fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued expect by luck, if we don’t keep a fire going? Is a fire too much for is to make? .Can't you see we ought to--ought to die before we let the fire out?'"(Golding 81).As the meeting taking place Ralph clear things out for the boys. Ralph made a clear statement that fire "is the most important thing on the island" and that he “ought to die" before they let the fire out. To Ralph the fire represents the future, because his future is getting back home to civilization, and the only way to get back home is to keep the rescue fire going at all the times. Ralph struggles to put things in order as the other boys started to forget about civilization and act more as savages. He has to stay civilized and represent that as a symbol for civilization so the other boys don’t forget about it. A civilized person would always try to go back to civilization where they belong and try hard as they can to make that possible. For Ralph, he will keep the fire going in hopes someone sees it and comes to the rescue. Another
