Connecting the Dots

Relative to space and time of the universe, every individual seems so negligible and evanescent, just like a tiny wave in the ocean; yet each life is so rich and unique that it is impossible for one to trace down every detail of another person’s life. Two people can look almost identical to each other, but even twins are no way the same: a slight change would alter all the patterns of a person’s life, an ever-shifting kaleidoscope. My background has made me a very distinctive person, but when I reflect, the decisive influence on my life is the choice that I made in high school.

One of my most notable characteristics is that I am really ambitious. I always desire and would put my best efforts to win in every kind of competitions:

With painstaking efforts, I got accepted by the University of Illinois at age 16. And thanks to my bold decision, I have now experienced and achieved far more than I would ever have, had I not quitted the program and smoothly transited into the next phase. Here at Illinois, I have not only overcome the language obstacle but also worked diligently to stay on top of the entire college: I keep my standards high to challenge myself to do better than others in every course taken, and consequently I have proved myself to rank #1 among 3,188 students in the entire college of Engineering. Besides academic performance, I have improved not just my other capabilities but also things around me. Teaching an electrical engineering honors class as an undergraduate greatly improves my communication and presentation skills, and during the period I revise the course materials and have doubled the class size within a year. Besides learning from numeral internship experiences, as an intern, I have created great values for the companies at the same time. In an automation system company, I build an operational tool that greatly improves the work efficiency of full time employees, and later in another trading company, I build an analysis tool providing insights into the market that no other existing ones can have, and it is also the first intern project ever to have CTO and technology leads attend presentation and be …show more content…
They are just like shackles: if we don’t overcome these fears, we would be stuck and never be able to surpass our own limits and grow into better individuals. Our life journey is short, but to me making it spectacular is more meaningful than leading an ordinary but safe life. We are young, and we have the capacity to experience trials and errors before finally accomplishing goals. Furthermore, it is significant to think independently and have the determination to stay on our own thoughts, and I will maintain this attitude to overcome any difficulties ahead, continually improve myself and make greater

Teddy Roosevelt once said that nothing worth having comes easy. With this in mind, I have actively spent my high school years working to ensure that my success and achievements are fruits of hard work and perseverance, rather than sheer luck. These past four years, I have dedicated my young mind to absorbing the valuable knowledge that pools before me in my rigorous AP courses. In addition, I also invested a good portion of my time into my school’s band program. Although balancing academics and such a demanding extracurricular activity was difficult, I managed to find the time to also participate in very rewarding organizations such as National Honor Society, among others.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Square one can be bliss for many of us. We recall all the memories that come out of it, the smiles, the laughter, and everything in between. I imagine square one to be our own little bubble, where we sit and twiddle our fingers, frightened to step out-- because if you do, you get sucked into the next world, a world where we think we do not belong. Yet, many of us do not even care about going back.…

In just one day, you come into contact with more people than you can count. Your parents in the morning, you teachers at school, your friends during lunch, and everyone in between. From a sociological perspective, each one of these interactions determines who you are and who you become as a unique individual. If someone smiles at you, or laughs at your joke, you know you said something funny, or did something right. If you get a dirty look, or someone begins crying after you say something, you probably did something wrong.…

I can recall my recent summer when I challenged myself to do tremendous work. Looking back to my previous summers, the mundane experience encouraged me to take drivers education for my license next year, test out of Algebra 2 and P.E., work on my AP History and Advanced English homework, practiced my viola for Symphonic Orchestra, read books during the night, and study for the S.A.T. (which was indeed, way too early for me). I was prompted to act because I recently found my ambitions for my future. My ultimate educational goal is to become some sort of engineer (undecided, but it’s related to this field), have the highest GPA possible, and obtain acceptance into University of Michigan. These ambitions didn’t hit me at the speed of light, but naturally throughout my ninth grade as I transition to a broader level of education.…
