Pursuing My American Dream

A time in my life when I have attempted to fulfill my dreams was when I was in Juarez, Mexico at about 3 years of age. Trying to survive in the nasty, horrifying streets wasn’t easy but I managed to not give up. It all started when I was 3 years old and my older brother was 7. We grew up together without a house, without food to eat and without clothes. I set my goal to try and get us out of what we lived through and get us out of that situation. We had to move from stop light to stop light and ask for money. Even though with the money we have saved up, we used to buy ourselves food and a water bottle each. This goal was really significant to me because we lived through so much that people couldn’t even imagine how terrible and crazy it was to survive. I set that dream because I didn’t want to live like that forever. Then after we heard about something called the “American Dream”. We moved here thinking that it is a true thing. …show more content…
We took 9 years saving money and living in the scary streets. Sometimes we even were lucky that people would donate something. We felt like we were able to accomplish what we wanted to. Striving for that dream has taught me that people can be poor and go from nothing to something. People just need something to live for. It’s important that we believe in ourselves and have the mindset that we are able to do anything. This can benefit me in the future because I know that I made it this far, then I can keep going and go farther then where I am today. Just remembering where and how I grew up was just horrible, but it has taught me so many lessons. Giving up is not one. I can keep on going and try to accomplish what I want. If I want to accomplish something I must know that it won’t be easy but I can’t give up in the progress of being
