Stereotypes are everywhere in our everyday lives. People in the world are placed in certain types of groups based on who they socialize with or even what they wear etc... Some might not even know what group or stereotype they are but have a sense of who they are. Some groups can be misconceptions to many people that don’t have a lot of knowledge about the group or who they are. Both stereotypes and misconceptions can impact how people feel weather it’s good or bad. Sadly, most stereotypes are negative and impacts the looks on different groups. They are also both the complete opposite of each other. Stereotypes focus more on groups and less of individuals. Misconceptions usually come after stereotypes because of its false claim. Stereotypes are mostly true but very exaggerated. On the other hand, misconceptions are just assumptions and incorrect views on individuals. In an article, About Men, talks about how cowboys are stereotyped for rough, tough, and courageous. However, she says from her own experience that they are really gentle, shy, and fragile. For example, in the article, About Men written by Gretel Ehrlich, the author’s friend Ted Haogland claims, “No one is as fragile as a woman but no one is as fragile as a man.”(43) This claims that men can have gentle hearts as a woman can. Another quote from the article claims, “their strength is also a softness, their toughness, a rare delicacy.”(43) This explains how soft cowboys actually are and not as tough that everybody assumes they are.
