One good thing that came of this war was the Yalta Conference, from document 6. This conference was with the three allied chiefs in which they discussed a plan to final the defeat of the Nazis. Stated in this document, they wanted to restore the sovereign rights and self-government to those who had been forcibly deprived of them by the aggressor nations. The Yalta Conference would then lead to the Cold War by the superpowers. President Truman decided that the only way to finally mark the end of the war was to drop the atomic bomb on Japan, which wasn’t as effective as he thought because it sparked yet another war, this time between the USSR and the US, and because nobody had expected that happening left us fighting over silly commodities.…
On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor. This attack forced the United States into the war, and just a day later the U.S. declared war on Japan. During the summer of 1945, Japan became a weak and destroyed country, but they were unwilling to pull out of the war. The United States gave Japan the offer to surrender numerous times, and if they did not agree complete destruction of Japan was coming. The United States dropped two atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki within a few days of each other.…
There were as many disadvantages to the use of atomic bombs in World War II for President Harry S. Truman as there were advantages. When Harry Truman learned of the accomplishment of the Manhattan Project, he recognized he was faced with a choice of supreme gravity. The ability to end the war with Japan was in his hands, but it would include releasing the most dreadful weapon ever known. The dropping of the atomic bomb. Truman indicated that his decision to drop the bomb was chastely military.…
The headquarters of the Manhattan project was located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This was during World War II they developed a program that would be able to harness the power of fission. Then later known as the Manhattan project. The goal was to make the first atomic bomb.…
The decision to use the atomic bomb posed several significant moral dilemmas for President Harry S. Truman, among these were justifications, alternatives, and complications of the situation. After Teddy Roosevelt 's death, Truman was the new president with a huge decision to make only a few months after. People felt Truman was an insecure man and poorly informed by Roosevelt until his entry to the presidency. It was months later that he learned of America’s dark secret, the Manhattan Project. There were presumably three possible alternatives available to Americans to avoid using the atomic bomb such as invasion, increasing bomb threats and blockades of Japan, and negotiating peace.…
High Performing Team: The Manhattan Project For a team to become high performing, it must have certain quantifiable characteristics. Among them are a reason, purpose, and sense of urgency. The Manhattan Project Team had and utilized all three of these criteria. In 1939, World War was raging in Europe as the Nazi Party was sweeping across the continent in search of global domination. Two refugee scientists, Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard, sent a letter to President Roosevelt warning him that they feared that the Germans were constructing a bomb of grand scale proportions (Nobelprize.org).…
When Victor Frankenstein created his monster, it was a great example of how someone can do something with the best intentions in mind, but get an outcome far different than what they had expected. If one thing is the same all about technology, whether it be for good or evil, it is that most of the time, their creators started out with the best intentions. Probably the best example of this is the Manhattan Project: the creation of the atomic bomb. In 1939, Albert Einstein wrote to President Franklin Roosevelt and urged him to approve a program that would create the first nuclear weapon.…
The Manhattan Project was a research and development project undertaking during World War 2 that produced the first nuclear weapons. Some people believe that the dropping of these atomic bombs and the development of the Manhattan project was very necessary and it needed to be done. But on the contrary, some think it was a waste of money, time, and it was not used for the good of the war and it was dropped on thousands of innocent people. The Manhattan Project was a great step in gaining political and army power in World War 2, there were many devastating effects on the dropping of the bomb and most people want to know if it was really necessary.…
In August 1945, the most horrific events occurred in Hiroshima and Nagasaki: the dropping of the atomic bombs. The whole creation of this highly destructive item began in 1939 with the splitting of a uranium atom. Scientists believed that the energy harvested could be useful to making such powerful weapons. The Manhattan Project was a code name given in 1941 for the devising of the atomic bomb. At one point, there were over 120,000 Americans that were employed in this project, and almost two billion dollars were put into research.…
From 1945 to this day there is still a controversial discussion on whether it was justifiable or not to drop the atomic bomb. From saving american lives to annihilating japanese lives there is no justification to dropping the atomic bomb the way that the United States decided to follow. No matter how much the US would intimidate Russia, and how it was one of the only ways to have a completely unconditional surrender it, it wasn’t worth destroying all the lives of the villagers living in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The starting development for the atomic bomb occurred when Leo Szilard, a Hungarian physicist, moved to the United states to research nuclear chains and the possibility of creating a bomb with the chain reactions.…
My overall view of the decision to drop the atomic bomb is that it should not have happened, mostly because the information that I learned supported them not to have to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima or Nagasaki. First of all I learned that they chose Hiroshima because it had not been bombed yet by fire bombs or anything; but all along they been having naval blockades and been firebombing Japan. The Japanese basically wanted to surrender. It’s been said that they have called surrender but no one wanted to announce it because they wanted to drop the bombs and the Japanese didn’t want to look weak. They have already been at war with allied powers great Brittan, France, and was about to have a war with Russia who could basically finish them off.…
The United States of America dropping the atomic bombs on Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6th and August 9th, 1945, was a very controversial decision and the opinions as to if the attacks were justified or not differ between those living in Japan and the U.S. The U.S’s act of dropping the atomic bombs was not justified because the long lasting health effects the bombings had on the population was disastrous, Japan’s army was inevitably facing defeat, and the mass destruction caused by the attacks lead to social damages throughout Japan. Although the atomic bombs did ensure victory for the U.S and British forces, it was a victory that definitely came with a cost; the significant loss of the Japanese population.…
The Manhattan Project lead to two different effects. First, it caused the finalization of the war with Japan, and also portrayed the U.S. as on top when it came to military prowess. Without the contributions of their research, it could have lead to a starved-out war with Japan that could have been much more destructive.…
After the Secretary of Defense, James Forrestal, informed Mr. Truman about their secret, he was very cautious and down to earth about his decision to use it. The Manhattan Project was the United States answer to the growing Nazi forces. America was fearful that Germany might develop an atomic bomb (Encyclopedia of U.S. History 950). The atomic bomb was based off the science of nuclei splitting.…
Dwight D.Eisenhower stated, “We are going to have peace even if we are going to fight for it.” The dropping of the atomic bombs in Japan was a necessary act in order for countless lives to be saved. In World War II, Japan treated the lives and peace of the people of the United States of America. Many people thought that dropping the atomic bomb was not necessary, but others would say otherwise. I believe that it was a necessary act that needed to be done.…
