Police Officer Narrative

I learned a lot about police during my ride along. I learned a few things about a police officer daily duties and the benefits about the job. I also realize that being a police officer is not exciting or required a lot of paper works like I thought. There is way more aspect to be a police officer than car chase or firing a gun as television portray it. A television episode about policing is not an accurate portrayal of an officer everyday work.
On Sunday, April 16, 2017, I completed the assignment of riding for 8 hours with a law enforcement officer. My shift began was 7pm to 2am. I we sat down and signed a couple of papers regarding my arrival. Afterwards we went in the briefing room, we talked for a while and got to know each other a little better. Then, Office Garcia introduce me to some other officer that were also on duty. He showed me the telecommunications room where I saw the operators at work. After an extensive time at the station, we finally went for our ride along. Upon starting our patrol, I noticed the high-quality technology in the car. The monitor of the computer is touchscreen, with a key board and it had internet. The computer had full access to the DMV and crime database. The computer also has chat, where police officer message each other. While riding around, officer Garcia began to run license plates numbers a little after 10pm. It was until then the ride along became interesting. He would go behind a car and run their license plate. He ran the license plate to check for stolen cars, warrant or person driving with a suspended …show more content…
During the routine of a traffic stop, the officer would: find a car to stop then turn their over headlights on to signal the driver of the vehicle to pull over. After the car stop, the officer would sit for a few and observe the driver of the vehicle or any furtive activities. The officer approach the vehicle. During the approaching step, he touch the back of the vehicle in case anything bad was supposed to happened. Officer Garcia approach the vehicle on the passenger side then asked the driver to hand him his driver license, registration and proof of insurance. The officer would return to his patrol car after he received those documents and run the driver’s information databases on the computer.
