, Marilyn Vega, recently received a ticket from the city of Chicago for a red-light violation on December 11, 2016. Attached, I have submitted two forms of proof that the weather conditions on that day were less then favorable thus affecting the roads as well. The image taken by the red-light camera clearly displays the poor driving conditions experienced that day. As I attempted to stop prior to the intersection, my vehicle hit a patch of ice and proceeded into the intersection despite my best efforts to stop the vehicle. In the interest of both my personal safety and the safety of other drivers, it was out of necessity that I proceeded through the intersection cautiously.…

Each year many die from careless commuters rushing to get to a destination on time and decide to run a red light. However, this number can be reduced drastically, which could be done if the red light violators were enforced. Unfortunately, there are not enough police to enforce this. According to the book when you come upon a railroad crossing you should slow down and always yield to all train traffic, you should never pass any cars at a railroad crossing, stop on the tracks, shift gears on the tracks, you should not park closer than 50 feet from a railroad crossing unless there is a sign that says you can, or the local law allows it. It is recommended that you turn down your car radio, so that you can hear any train horns, and at night you should stop before railroad crossings and make sure there is no train approaching, because a train may not have a light on and it is dangerous to assume there is no train coming. The book also states that you must come to a complete stop when there are flashing lights, and that you may…

(Rispo, 2009) While insurance rates do not increase based on red light tickets, they do increase when there is an accident, so insurance companies benefit from red light cameras as well. Rispo interviewed professor and chair of health policy and management of University of South Florida College of Public Health who said, "The rigorous studies clearly show red-light cameras don't work, instead they increase crashes and injuries as drivers attempt to abruptly stop at camera intersections." (Rispo, 2009) Many drivers who slam on their brakes to avoid the red light cameras have other drivers behind them who are not anticipating the abrupt stop and who may be following too closely, thus resulting in a rear end…
