Conservation is one of the terms of Piaget which mean the ability to understand the measure of two objects still constant even though their shape changed as long they do not take away or add the measure and content of the object, (Feldman, 2012) This measurement can be in volume, mass, and number length. The kids who are at concrete operational stage, they can accomplish the conservation …show more content…
The criticism is arise based on the method he conducted during the research and the conclusion was made from his observation towards his own children (Mukunthan T. , 2013). In other word, some researcher are disagree on his theory because he did the research on his kids which is not a reliable theory that can be used to other children. The other way around, others researcher agreed with him as during Piaget’s preoperational stage, most of the children are not fully developed in term of cognitive to surpass the conservation tasks (Agger, 2007). Besides that, Piaget concludes that during conservation task, the children fail because the way of their thinking is not according to the principle of reversibility, compensation and identity (Agger, 2007). For example, there have two glasses of juice with the same size of glass and volume. The two glasses is different with one is tall and thin while another one is wide and short. Then, we will start pour the juices into the new glasses in front of them. The children who lack conservation will state the juice with taller glass contain more water than other. For problem-solving task, children use materials that have relation with the matter that need to solve in the task itself such as sand, water and blocks. The term conservation can be defined as the properties or certain characteristics of an object for instance mass, weight and volume remain unchanged even though the physical appearance have been altered.
Generally, most of the researcher agree with the Piaget’s theory that child will go through four stage development and one of the is preoperational stage and it also has some immature aspects when the children are in this particular stage. Children’s nowadays also through that four stage and developing their cognitive ability just same as past children experiences.
Conclusion
We do agree with the Piaget centration theory which proposed that preoperational children cannot recognize any transformation and changes as they can only focus on one current state and we believe that this theory is also applicable in this modern era. The sufficient fundamental knowledge of the children development will helps the society to nurture a better nation that provide the best environment for child
