I remember my very first steps into the Orlando Ice Arena, I could feel the cold brisk chill hit my face. I stopped and stared I had never seen such a big rink, there were huge crowds, gorgeous dresses, sparkling medals, and talented skaters everywhere around me. I was in a day dream until I heard my loud family slowly come behind me. When I realized I was in the real world, I quickly noticed that I only had three minutes to put on my skates for practice ice I snapped my skate bag open and hastily grabbed my skates, then ran out to the ice. All the other girls were taller than me so it was hard to get threw but when I finally reached the front, I dashed onto the ice. I quickly found my coach Rimma, and I can still remember her yelling at me for being late in her thick Russian accent. After skating three circles around the rink, I could feel the ache in my legs go away. First I did my jumps, all of the girls stopped and stared because my jumps were so high. Most of the girls that competed against me had small jumps and could spin really fast, but I jumped …show more content…
My coach hugged me so hard I couldn't breathe. My parents were shocked, they never saw my true potential. They started to say sorry for what they said, and told me I could keep skating no matter what place I got. I anxiously waited for my score, all of the girls skated great but only one could win. The announcer walked slowly to the posting wall, everyone staring excited to see what place they got. My mouth dropped, first place Moriah Oliveira. I screamed my head off I was so excited! I walked to the awards table and saw the huge trophy ,they handed it over and I remember grasping it in my arms and thanking god for my win. Paxton got second, and my best friends Ashley got

"One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do,"this quote by Henry Ford reconnects when it comes to facing something you're afraid of; our fears. When we get over fears, we realize only then that we had the courage before to do that something we were afraid of doing. One time I was afraid was when I started ice skating. I was at a party for my younger sister's friend at an ice ring.…

My domination of easily breezing by my neighbors in street hockey and always ranked at the top of stat sheets for scoring in recreational hockey, abruptly ended when I joined my first competitive travel hockey team. My first game exemplified the setbacks my fear imposed on my team when I frighteningly moved out of the way of an enormous player to grant him a free pass to the net in which he scored the game winning goal. Shamefully looking at me as if I were an ally of the other team, I became alienated after my team after they began the tradition of…

I’ve been playing the incredible sport of Ice Hockey for over 10 years now. Although it has become steadily easier, and more about sharpening skills than developing them, in the beginning it was extremely difficult. The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. One of my roommates in college was gay. He confided in me about his sexual preference, knowing I’d respect his confidence. Back then, gay people were openly ridiculed and rejected and attacked. I wish I could say this was no longer true, but obviously I can’t. We’ve come a long way, but what happened in Orlando and the reaction to it provide harsh reminders of how people hate those who are different from them in some way.…

I was so happy I was near the front of the line because I wanted to stand out and make them remember me. While sitting there group after group kept going in it was getting close to my turn. While lined up behind these huge gray doors waiting for the judges to call us in, I didn’t think I could make it. My knees started shaking and I felt the butterflies in my stomach going crazy. Stepping on that blue mat I thought I had forgot what I had learned that week to make the team.…

I never chose to start ice skating.…

During my first three years of learning Italian, I unfortunately did not get a chance to use my Italian outside of the classroom. Although both my grandfather and father are Italian, since my grandfather had immigrated to the United States as a child, he only knew bits and pieces - not enough to have a conversation - so although I have Italian blood, I never knew any of the language until I entered high school. This past year, I finally got my chance. I am a competitive figure skater.…
