Personal Narrative: The Day I Lie To My Mother

Improved Essays
Before I start; lying is very bad. Do not lie to your friends, do not lie to your siblings, but especially do not lie to your mother. If you have a mother like mine, then you are pretty lucky, because she took it lightly and even thought it was downright hilarious. At the time, though, she thought she was going insane. The first time I lied to my mother is a long story. We were in Disney World on a family trip. It was during Thanksgiving (a bad time to lie) and we were having an amazing time. My sisters, my mother, and I were all having fun riding rides and going out to dinner every night. This technically all started because my mother is a smoker. She has gotten better since then, but in 2011 it was almost a pack a day. In Florida, the type of cigarettes my mother buys are very expensive. It costed her almost $40 for about 8 packs. Anyway, later that night, my sisters wanted to go on The Mummy A.K.A a big scary rollercoaster that my 10-year-old self did not want to go on. So my sisters went on the roller coaster while my mom and I went to go on a less scary simulation ride. We were waiting …show more content…
My mom and one of my sisters went to go have a smoke while we were waiting for the ferry to get back to our hotel. While they were away from us, the boat captain gave us stickers with Mickey Mouse on them. I also told the sister who was waiting in line with me that I took all of mom’s cigarettes and put them under a bench across the park. She was shocked and angrily told me that they were very expensive and that I should not have done that, but also could not hold back her laughter. My face dropped because she yelled at me, and our mother walked over all worried to ask what was wrong. I came up with the best lie my 10-year-old mind could have ever come up with on short notice. I told my mom that Olivia, my sister, stole my stickers. Then the best thing happened. She believed me, and we moved on with our

I have told a few lies in my lifetime. The few lies I can think of were when I planned a surprise party for my parents. I told them I had to stop by my friend’s house for some paperwork. I lied; the party was held there. Then I told them about all the other “lies” leading up to the party.…

It was a normal day; school had just ended and my mom picked her friend’s kids and us from school. She had to take care of the kids for the day and we were very excited to go back home and play around. Running around the house with balls flying everywhere, trash on the floor and the smell of crayons all throughout the air. Breaking the vase playing catch was the last straw for my mom so she sat us down…

I managed to reach a point where I began making false promises to myself and others about addressing my situation. Among those empty promises was the one where I claimed I would give up drinking, attend rehab and try to get my life back on track. I even fiddled with the thought of seeking inpatient assistance if things weren't working as planned. Let's be clear and fair.…

It is 3 am in the morning and I can not believe that I ended up here. The Nazi police are all surrounding me with their guns loaded aiming for me. It does not seem real, but they actually caught me. I held the soft, velvet fur coat in my freezing hands, I did not know what to say or do. “Miep Gies, you are going to be taken in for questioning,” spoke the Nazi man who wore a dark green outfit from head to toe.…

We went through a lot of fights, name calling, hurtful words, wishing each other ill and pain. Of course, I’m human and lied sometimes but ultimately never felt right doing it. Partly because my parents focused so much of their time and energy, working up to 60 hours a week at the fields, and still had time to teach me honestly. I just took it as my duty to never lie, almost out of respect. Just last week, I took a quiz for AP history, and I got a 3/10 on a quiz. I had the opportunity to give him a fake score, but since he is such a nice person, I couldn't take advantage of him.…

A person lies many times in their life, for example hiding a surprise, faking being sick to not go out, or saying that a gift was great when it wasn’t. These little lies are usually used to prevent hurting someone’s feelings or to make them feel better. Sometimes one of these little lies can progress into to something that blows up into a person's face, and it makes them wonder why they even lied in the first place. A time in which this happened to me I didn’t even realize the lie until later on when it came to blow up in my face. In the eighth grade I told my best friend that I would always keep her secrets and that she shouldn’t worry about it.…

Honesty is the avoidance of knowingly deceiving yourself or others. Honesty means not lying, cheating, or stealing, whether it is done with malicious intent or not. This holds true even in situations where dishonesty seems like the easy way out. Perhaps one of the least considered, and possibly most difficult, aspects of honesty is being honest with oneself. Everyone has moments where lying may seem like the easy way out.…
