Decent Essays
Is it really time to go back to school already? Mind you, we just got back from vacation, if you would have asked me a week prior I would have said the exact oppostie! I go over only to discover this...

Now, I wanted to get it over with as much as anyone but no matter how frustrated I get I will never buy generic school supplies! (And you shouldn't either...) So he proceeds to ask me why about 95 times which by the way is not the way to win an argument...at least not with me! (We didn't buy them if you were wondering...)

“Finding my Retainer” It was eighth grade when I lose my brand new retainer in the cafeteria. I only had them for one day! My parents told me to be very careful about them when I ate, and so I was. At lunch, I ate a peanut butter sandwich and laid my clear retainers on my tray where I would see and remember them. I have worked at Madison Elementary School for the last fourteen years and have seen many children go through “the system”; meaning being removed from their families and homes and being put into foster care. It is a heartbreaking and difficult procedure to see and it happens way too often. With that being said, once again, I find myself sharing a new adventure that has been bestowed upon me. A little over a month ago, I was called down to the office (I actually had a very anxious feeling- not normal for me).…

Over the last few decades, homeschooling has become a feasible alternative to public and private school education. The homeschool movement began in the early 1970’s and has shown to be effective for many students and parents. Fortunately, since homeschooling has gained acceptance, the requirements for homeschooling have become less rigorous and homeschooling is now recognized as a legitimate approach to educating students. Isn 't it disheartening how easily forgotten some of the big truths discovered throughout our lives are? I was reminded today, in the midsts of diaper changes, meltdowns, playdates and spit-up, of one of the greatest truths I luckily learned earlier on in my marriage. Within 6 months of being a married gal, nearly 6 years together with Ben, I learned the first big lesson of marriage: My first ministry is my marriage and husband. I had to learn that being intentional about spending time with my husband was important for our intimacy, friendship and general kindness to each other.…

Every child has to attend school; however, for some students “normal” school may not be the best fit. Homeschooling – that is, parent-led home-based education – is an age-old traditional educational practice that a decade ago appeared to be cutting-edge and “alternative” but is now bordering on “mainstream” in the United States. Although it is commonly assumed that homeschooling can damage students socially, developmentally, and academically. Studies show this stereotype is inaccurate and home education has its merits.…

Individualism is a great factor that comes out of homeschooling. When children are homeschooled they often possess their own ideals and individuality. They are less likely to conform o society than public schooled children are. Homeschooled students have a free space to be themselves and be as opinionated as wished to be without being judged. Homeschooled students are not distracted by what to wear or the people there, only their education or in other words “when you homeschool a child, his life isn’t dictated by trends; it’s dictated by the values that you instill.”…
