There are some events that are so terrifying that you can remember everything about when it happened. For me, that event is when I came out to my mom. She had called me into her room so that I could listen to her read Bible verses condemning homosexuality, which is always a fun time. The room only had one dim light on and the curtains were closed, making the room almost as gloomy as me at the time. Downstairs, I could smell my sisters baking and wished more than anything I could be there instead of where I was: sitting at the edge of the bed, staring at the pile of clothes on the floor as I tried to keep myself from thinking about what she was saying.
