Everywhere they turn, it is there. It is in their house, it is in their car, and it is even in their pocket. It can be a used for good or it could be used to bring their jobs to and end. It is technology and it is growing faster than anyone can imagine. It seems to be the fastest growing thing around and it is starting to interfere with life. Some people say that technology is the future but what does that mean for their future? Although technology can be used for good, it can also be used to negatively affect the job market because it causes students to question career choices, it causes an increase in stress levels, and most importantly, it consumes jobs. Although work is not fun, People need them to supply for themselves and their families. No one likes to work but they love the pay and if they just sit back and let technology take over, there will be no more pay. According to the article “How Technology is Destroying Jobs” by David Rotman “Even more ominous for workers, the MIT academics foresee dismal prospects for many types of jobs as these powerful new technologies are increasingly adopted not only in manufacturing, clerical, and retail work but in professions such as law, financial services, education, and medicine.” In this excerpt from his article Rotman is saying that technology is growing and it is slowly making jobs obsolete that once worked by a human being. He uses these examples to show his audience that technology can have negative effect on the job market. People say that technology has positive effects on life but is it a positive thing when it is destroying their only means of income. Just imagine without technology students would not have the machines to type their essays or the means of communicating with their amazing teachers for support. Another example of technology having a positive effect is self checkout. Everyone has had that one bad experience when every line in Walmart was full and they were in a rush. When they just wanted to go to McDonalds and get them something quick to eat, but everybody and their mama decided to go and eat at McDonald’s. That is when technology becomes useful.
