Stuart Wolpert wrote an article named “Is technology producing a decline in critical thinking and analysis” that is about research being done at UCLA. Those studies pertain to technology and the effects it has on student’s learning. It was found that students that needed to perform specific, complex tasks should not use technology as much. However, students that need to multi-task are much better off using technology more often. Studies have also found imagination has decreased due to the decline in reading for pleasure. Visual media, although, has increased students ability to process information better. Patricia Greenfield said that “studies show that reading develops imagination, induction, reflection, and critical thinking” and that “reading for pleasure is the key to developing these skills.” It could argued some forms of technology expands imagination, such as video games. Video games present ideas and themes never previously thought of and gets the gears turning in one’s head. It also develops a better ability to multi-task than those who do not use technology as heavily. Additionally, technology increases one’s ability to find information.
