I thought then what did she want to get from this long journey at this age? But she had stamina and even greater and she proved it. She traveled again and much later to USA and because she was traveling I believed she was well and she also had guts. I admired her courage. In this trip she visited her great grandchildren.

Grandmother Alexandra in America, with her great granddaughter, Olga

History repeats itself. Just like Alexandra 's mother, the great grandmother to me, had managed to keep on her lap and play with her great grandchildren.
When I was around four years old, I began to understand the meaning of the great grandmother and great grandchildren. I do remember my childish observations. All grandmothers were simply in great age,

She was very happy. She loved the lilac color, the shape of this flower and of course its aroma. It brought memories to her. And the lavender was always in every drawer in her wardrobe. Whenever we walked for a little walk up to St Paraskevi near the park with swings, the road was plenty with acacias. She always cut a flower and hid in her pocket. Whenever we went to Evmorfia 's house (the grandmother from my father 's part), she admired the hydrangeas in the garden. She called to tell her secrets. "I don 't want to be evil eye! From my grandmother I learned that the first ice-cream on a stick in Greece entered the market in 1936 by the Sourapa brothers, who had just returned from America with the necessary expertise. The six brothers from Tripoli, with the patent license in hand, created the National Dairy in Botanicos area. The ice-cream havoc on the market and at first it tasted like vanilla. The shrewd businessmen later added the chocolate cover and gave to the Greeks a memorable dessert. Whether from the ice-cream pushcart with the iron wheels and the distinguished sound heard at the streets of the neighborhood or from the outdoor refrigerator of the stands, the smile of satisfaction was the

The first interesting quote, “the selfless work of these entertainers… amounting to the astounding total of eighty-eight million” discuss the risky job of entertaining soldiers in order to boost morale, lessen fatigue as well as decrease anxiety. Some of these routines were performed with ear shot of grueling combat. These groups became known as the “singing army” and are interesting due to the fact that these artistes put themselves in harm’s way to help alleviate soldiers. The second interesting ‘quote’ is a string of quotes, “She determined that ragtime… most of the boys are singing with me” in which they discuss how Paula Lind Ayres was able to develop a “treatment” for those affected with shell shock.…

A week or so ago I was told would have to write a paper about a historical figure I would like to have lunch with and why. I spent a long time thinking and considering who I may choose to write about for this assignment. This world of ours has seen many magnificent people who have inspired and changed our world for the better. Who has changed the world, who has inspired many people through their actions. After a lot of thought, Sacajawea came across my mind.…

One reason being that her husband made her go out on the expedition without much of a choice. At a young age she had to leave her life and everything she knew to go with two men she had never met. She also had to sacrifice her somewhat safe environment for the expedition. The people who went on the expedition did not always have it very easy. They had very low food sources where they all almost starved to death.…

The idea behind “An American Childhood” by Annie Dillard shows great examples for writers in her how to show and describe something in detail without giving away key notes that could possibly make an individual subconsciously pre-judge. Dillard, throughout the small reading is able to display what her mother was like and who she was without giving her a face as well as accentuating her beauty. Her mother’s personality showed fun and eccentric as her daughter explained how her and her sister would almost be test subjects to her jokes but her unwavering strength as well. Throughout the first part of the reading, her tone is light and her quotes share how outgoing and into her own vocabulary she was. “She served us with other words and phrases”…

The Holocaust was a terrible thing that happened in the European continent, it all started January 30, 1933 and ended May 9, 1945. The camps that Jews were held up in were very brutal it is very shocking but fortunate that some survived. I am going to be talking about who I believe deserves the medal of honor for their role during the time of the Holocaust. All of the choices for this reward all deserved it in there own way.…

The selection I choose to discuss is, you guess it, “A good man is hard to find” by Flannery O’Connor. This selection tells of a grandmother trying to impart wisdom to her son on how to raise her grandchildren despite his vehement arrogance. According to the Holy Bible, “Trained up a child that way they should go which will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). According to Fiola, (2012), “Sublime evidence of the appeal of allegory may found is Christ’s use of the parable: a brief narrative-usually allegorical but sometimes not that teaches moral (p. 472, paragraph 2) Character…

“A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Conner seems like a basic story. It is the story of a incoherent family that takes a trip and by chance they end up at the hands of a killer. When this story is looked at more closely it really holds some important themes. The two main characters, the grandmother and the Misfit, have a conversation that reveals more than what is on the surface. The innocent grandmother and the killer Misfit although seeming the complete opposites of good and evil are more alike than different when really examined.…

Three shots, that's all it took to correct a lifetime worth of character flaws and false identity. One ponders the irony, clarity evolving from the most unlikely source only to have no opportunity to right all the wrongs. In the short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” the grandmother’s epiphany, or moment of revelation, is no other than the moment when she reaches out and touches the Misfit. Even though the Misfit and his fellow convicts have murdered all the other members of her family, the grandmother is now able to see a connection between herself and The Misfit. At that moment, nothing else matters, not her status, race, or gender.…

In early August of 2012, my dad and I decided to visit my Grandpa and Grandma Hurt in Florida. We hadn’t seen them in a couple years and it was time to spend quality time with them because time goes quickly, and you never know what could happen. The car ride seemed forever, but I was so excited to go to Florida. The car ride was almost unbearable to sit hour after hour. The only peculiar thought about this trip, is that my grandpa was sick, and the doctors did not know what exactly was wrong.…

Flannery O’Connor is considered one of America’s best fictional writers not one that ,but she is also know a strong advocate for Roman Catholicism. O’Connor is primarily known for her her fictional stories, that being said the characteristic that she makes evident among all the characters in her short stories is what makes her writing extremely interesting. In “ A Good Man is Hard to Find” the grandmother is quite the character., and most people can relate to the character due to the fact that they too have a family member or loved one that resembles some of the same traits as the grandmother. She is illustrated as a stubborn, ignorant, and talkative old lady. All these traits contributed in their own way to the final result of the short story which is death.…

Mawmaw was born in St Louis County in a strongly Catholic home. Her mother was the typical housewife. All who knew my great grandma could only say good things about her. One Christmas, before I was born, my mother went up to St Louis to celebrate the holidays with my father’s family, and my great grandma was not expecting her. While passing out the gifts, Mom, (my great grandma’s name to all the kids and grandkids), realized that she didn’t have a gift for my mom.…

I spent many hours after school sitting in the sparsely active cafeteria, while she served the students with a smile on her face. My Grandma was a kind, selfless woman who would never let you go hungry. She instilled in me how important it is to take care of the people around you, so that when you are in need, they will take care of you. It’s cliche, I know, but the world truly did lose a great human being. After her passing, My Mimi, who is my father’s grandmother, took me in and supplied me everything I needed to succeed in life.…
