In April of 2017, my senior class took a trip to Haiti. The high school I went to was a small private school and every year the senior class gets to choose where they want to go for their end of the year trip. It can be anywhere in the world, but if it is outside of the United States then it must be for missions. In the past, most seniors save up all year for a lame, two-night trip to Cape Cod or North Conway. My class wanted to break this tradition and start a new one. I obviously thought she was crazy. I have never heard God speak to me in my life and knew I was not going to have a “rock” moment on this trip.
Over the next two weeks I met some of the sweetest people. We worked with Sherrie at the school during the day, whether it was helping in the classrooms, playing with the kids outside, or just talking to them. All the students spoke English so it was easy to talk with them. All the kids I met were really happy all the time, talking about how much they love Jesus and how blessed they are. I felt bad for them knowing how less fortunate they are. This trip was life changing because it brought my class closer together. We were forced to work together whether we liked it or not.
