My parents had always stressed that the one thing that they wanted for me and my siblings is for us to achieve all the things they were not able to, but would benefit us greatly. In their adolescence, Nicaragua was facing a grave revolution and my parents had to flee to the United States straight out of high school in order to avoid it. The money they left with was limited and they had to get straight to working full-time if they wanted to sustain themselves and a family in new borders; college became a mere reverie and that concept was enforced when children came into frame. They still never stopped teaching us and insisting on the importance of a good education and a passion for knowledge seeking. Being accepted into DASH made me the first of their children to attend a magnet school and more so of such high artistic and academic standards and its made them extremely proud. Transitioning from a middle school setting to a high school setting is not a simple step for everyone, but I had been blessed enough to be attending a school that has found the perfect balance between high school and preparation for a college/art industry experience. This crossing into a different school signifies a graceful slide from childhood into adulthood as we are considered
