Narrative Essay About Going To Japan

My initial thought of going to Japan is “Are we going to see some awesome neon city in Akihabara or are we going to some rural area with some magnificent landscape that I have seen in the magazines?”. Surprisingly my dad told me we are going to stay in Japan for a month with my grandma and grandpa in Sapporo where many fresh meat is being made locally. Day before the journey begins, I realized this will be my first time riding a plane as well. This frightened me because I am afraid of heights. I fixed this by reading a book on how to not be afraid of heights while riding the airplane (This is funny because my dad thought I was ridiculous). After a few hours in flight, the gigantic land turned into water and continued in the same state for 12 …show more content…
The hotel was completely different to the ones from America. It was cheap, clean, and comfortable. First was the front where we take off our shoes and wear sandals. We then go to our rooms greeted by all the staffs and guide us to our vast indoor hot spring and very traditional bedroom where we will sleep. The food we order was a huge seafood cuisine that just made my jaw drop. It was really fresh and beautiful from how clean it was. My dad told me that we are close to one of many fish market in Tokyo.
The next day and forward, we went to a Ghibli Museum, where we saw many art pieces from Laputa, Spirited Away, Totoro, and more, all made by an animator named Hayao Miyazaki. This place was a lot more rural than in Tokyo. There was green farms, abandoned mines within the mountainside where plants grew over, and a beautiful view of the blue sea. This was also where I get to see my grandma and grandpa for the first time and went hiking together and ate barbeque with my cousin in Hamanaka on the cliff shore. Another thing that I noticed in Hokkaido was that I had seen bikes and very expensive items being left in the open areas. People who owned these stuff had no worries of crimes at all. This was when I learned that Japan has one of the lowest crime rate in the world. I couldn’t do this in America because I don’t trust the public at all. Therefore, I was very surprised by it. We stayed in Hokkaido until the month ended and headed back home with many things that I had learned over this

The start of the Meiji Era and the beginning of Japan’s road to modernization, started when the 16 year old emperor Mutsuhito selected the era name Meiji for his reign. This period commenced with the collapse of the Tokugawa Shogunate and led to Japan’s transformation from a feudal nation into a modern industrial state. Unifying Japan The United States implies unity, as a positive aspect of people’s lives, however in history the act of unifying individuals and places was not always done or perceived as positive. Japan exhibited a very suitable example of this. From the 1500s to the 1800s, Japan started to develop a central government. After years of civil war and instability through its territory, the shogun, a military general, began to enforce various edicts in an attempt to ensure unity and growth. These edicts effectively banned farmers from having weapons, outlawed Christianity and the Portuguese, and did not allow citizens to travel outside of Japan.…
