Every tap of the keyboard that meets my ears is a type of music that settles my soul. I’m not writing about a piece in particular, I’m writing about how the act of me writing has been such an amazing influence on my life. As a child with an alcoholic parent, I struggled to find a healthy outlet for my emotions. I’d tried running, drawing, painting, singing, playing an instrument, but to no avail, I could not find what could calm me. Finally one day my friend pointed me to a mediocre fanfiction site and I fell in love. These pieces were written by someone just like me: a younger, less-experienced teenager who was just trying to find their voice. I read piece after piece and finally realized that this was it.
