My English Assignment Analysis

When I told my friends, who took the course already, that I was taking 1157 they told me to prepare myself for a new world of writing but, I was not nervous. After getting my first English assignment, I was nervous. Writing for me has not been a major struggle however, I knew that I was in a different ball game after the first day of my English class. Throughout the semester, I was shocked by the grades that I received for each paper because for some I was confident and for others I was not. I learned a lot about myself as a writer and I learned more about writing than I ever did in my four years of taking English in high school. The first assignment was to tell a focused story that communicates something about my identity as …show more content…
My first semester of college has been such a major change from high school because Professor Collins was very detailed about what needs to be fixed and how to fix it. While I was in high school, my English teacher did not do a very good job at giving feedback. Also, having my classmates give ideas on what to write about always played a big part in writing my final draft. I also thought it was a crazy idea when Professor Collins told me that I should read my paper out loud but now I do it for every paper and will continue to do it. My biggest regret this semester was not going to the writing center more and waiting last minute to do my papers. I realize now that if I would have gone to the writing center more my papers would have been better. The three times that I was able to send my paper to the writing center I was very pleased because the feedback made a major difference in how I wrote my final draft. I understand now that getting as many people as possible to read my paper could make a big difference. Also, I learned to manage my time better when it comes to writing …show more content…
After reading over my rough and final drafts, I realized they all have two things that could use work on and it is the flow of my paragraphs and grammar. I still need to work on that but, I am happy with how far I have come as a writer. Taking this class has shown me my strengths and weakness in writing. Even though I am not very excited about writing essays in my next English class, I feel more confident than I did when I first started English 1157 because of Professor

In article “So you’ve got a Writing Assignment” Corrine Hinton said “When getting a writing assignment, you should read it more than once just to get knowledge of what they are really asking for”. Hinton claims that it is really important that people carefully read their assignment again and again to understand it properly because when people don’t know the purpose of writing assignment exactly then it is really hard to write well. Again I argue that reading is the back bone of writing. I was not a good reader so I was doing mistake that i did not read my writing assignment properly and at the end I failed and it irritates me because I worked hard…

Before beginning this course, I knew that I lacked confidence within my writing. People say that you are your own worst critique, and I fully agree with that statement. My writing was not terrible in some aspects, but I knew that it needed to be improved upon. I lacked the experience needed because writing was not something that I did on a daily basis. When I first started English 1302, the little confidence that I had significantly plummeted since my writing seemed childish compared to other students.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

Next semester I am enrolled in English 220, and after having taken this course I feel substantially better about continuing on with English courses at a college level. It has helped me to become more confident in my writing skills and provided me with an excellent basis for me to continue on with next semester, and throughout the rest of my schooling experience. Throughout this class I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is the steps to writing an essay, and the planning options.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

Coming into a college class made me nervous from the beginning because like many people I was afraid of the unknown. However, I was excited and scared about what was to come and how I would meet the challenges that I would face. At my previous school that I was attending, we wrote essays all the time so that could help prepare ourselves for writing college essays. Fast forward from my freshman year to now, my junior year, I know that I was nervous for no apparent reason. During English 111 I was able to understand more about a what a college class requires and that it is nothing like high school, which is a good thing.…

English Composition I taught me a lot about myself, including how to be a better college student, through the process of writing. At the beginning of the year, I was not very excited about having to write argumentative papers. This is because I did not care enough about the assigned topics to have an opinion. But, I did learn a lot that I would not have known otherwise from having to research information about the topics I chose to write about. For example, in paper #2, I wrote about the niqab and how I believe that it is oppressive to women.…
