Gretel Ehrlich, author of About Men, gives a taste of what a misconception is about on cowboys through her narration:
Even young cowboys are often evasive with women. It’s not that they’re Jekyll and Hyde creatures – gentle with animals and rough with women – but rather, that they don’t know how to bring their tenderness into the house and lack the vocabulary to express the complexity of what they feel.
She put into perspective how a misconception works for the young cowboys, that they must be bad with women and good with animals only, but she debunks this by expressing how they really are. Some might confuse stereotypes with misconceptions, thinking they are about the same thing in most cases. The main difference between a stereotype and a misconception is that stereotypes are based on a truth, even though exaggerated, and a misconception is based on an untruth. There is a famous quote by Edgar Allan Poe that reads “Stupidity is a talent for misconception”, meaning that having the talent for believing in something that is false is what defines stupidity. It further highlights that having the brains to believe whatever you hear, without a reliable source to verify if its true or not, it is what makes ignorant people not only that, but stupid. Stereotypes are even harder to debunk, since they vary from socially accepted images of groups, many of them being negative, making them too widespread to even …show more content…
They love animals! that’s why they chose not to eat them, or at least a part of vegans say that’s why they do it. They want a healthier lifestyle! That’s another reason people convert to veganism. Some people would go as far to say that even though vegans claim to have a healthier lifestyle from their food choices, it might not be all true, as some would even go as far to say that meat is as important to humans for development and nutrition as a crop that needs rich soil to grow on. Vegans love to say they’re vegan, they might even mention they are vegan before even giving someone their own name, and that is where the obnoxious views of them come from. In fact, the obnoxious part might also come from some vegans getting offended because someone didn’t knew they were vegan and innocently offered any kind of animal product to them, or simply because other people chose not to be vegan and it triggers something in them. Vegans are also very stereotyped to be weak, since all they can do is look for supplements for the protein and other nutrients they’re missing out on for not eating
