1976 was America’s bicentennial year. Memorial Day weekend was a precursor of what was to come on July 4th. It represented good times for most. Two hundred years of United States independence was an opportunity for some motivated patriotic people to go straight to their banks to pick up all the minted commemorative coins so that they could save them in proof quality. A larger portion of the population was anxious to celebrate by going to parades, buy or go see fireworks. Every display was promised to be more than spectacular. The remainder of the population was content to have an excuse to drink beer, get high, and/or to have time off from work. For Stacey, it was the last one, to take time off from work.
