The Australian Diamonds are currently world champions and have held that title for many years. This team are also the current title holders of the Quad Series and Constellation Cup (Netball Australia, 2018). Due to this, players from other countries come and participate in Suncorp Super Netball (our local premiership). We have players from England, South Africa and Jamaica in our league (Suncorp Super Netball, 2018). This results in our players becoming immersed in their culture as well as their players learning about and being influenced by ours (Engaging Woman, 2016). These players encourage those from their own countries to watch the games and allow the media to spread its influence worldwide (Russel et al. 2011). Ballroom Dance however, does not have any notable international leagues or participants to allow the sport to grow. This has reduced the exposure rates of the sport resulting in a lack of participants and sponsors. The successful manipulation of the superficial coverage of sport and the increasing role of the media has allowed Netball to draw in fans all throughout the media by projecting an exhilarating image of the sport. The trends involving the increasing advertising power of sport and internationalisation of sport have also allowed Netball to gain a fan base and sponsors worldwide, allowing the sport to grow tremendously. Participants have been further drawn in at a young age by the creation of sports stars such as Laura Geitz (Chron, 2018; Mccaw, 2018). These trends working together have allowed Netball to break the status quo of male dominated sports being the most prominent in the media, allowing the sport to develop even further. Comparatively, Ballroom Dance has been unsuccessful in manipulating any of these trends effectively and has very few participants and sponsors.
