Mark Dever's Interpretation Of Mark Rever

opponents might cite First and Second Epistle of John where the apostle introduced himself as an elder. Regarding to this biblical interpretation, Mark Dever responds that the apostle is the only one who refers to the pastoral office as a singular elder because people might know him by this title. Therefore, it can be assumed that John was not dealing with the pastoral office instead it was a recognition of his labor in the ministry.
In addition, the apostle in the book of Revelation points out the Angels of seven churches (Rev 1:20-3:14). Some Scholars like Zahn, Brownlee Walvoord and Hendriksen state that the word angel means messenger. Thus, these messengers could be the elders or bishops of the churches. The Roman Catholic Church’s hierarchy of vocation did not only make religious work more holy then secular, it also divided religious work into differed levels of importance. At the very top of callings was the office of the Pope, who served as Vicar of Christ. Calvin condemned the work of the priests and monks as dishonouring God, writing “For Paul censures those lazy drones who lived by the sweat of others, while they contribute no service in common for aiding the human race. Of this sort are our monks and priests who are largely pampered by doing nothing, excepting that they chant in the temples, for the sake of preventing weariness .” Below that were layers of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, and these classes of clergy were further divided into sub-categories of their own.…

In Daniel Luzer’s article, “Is Alcohol Really to Blame for the Prevalence of Sexual Assault on College Campuses?” published in Pacific Standard on November 18, 2013, explains the reasoning behind the tremendous amount of sexual assault on college campuses. As the topic of sexual assault was being over looked, alcohol consumption was a major factor in this case but there was a stronger reasoning that could easier explain the prevalence. For past years, alcohol consumption in college has remained mostly the same, therefore, if the alcohol intake hasn’t necessarily changed it can’t take the full blame for the rise of sexual assault. Take into consideration the ways students, or generally in our society, used to interact and socialize compared…

Kevin Brockmeier takes on an in depth view of The Poser while he summarizes it. Brockmeier hints at the possibility of Giovanni’s mother pushing him further into being an impressionist. The quotes from the book that he gives truly proves this point by observing that it shows how her interest in impressions and threads causes a lasting influence on Giovanni. Furthermore, Brockmeier focuses on the fact that Giovanni wants to live the life of someone else instead of being himself. He uses context from the text to prove his point by using a quote from the novel in which Giovanni conveys how he wants to live the life of a ticket seller.…

We were raised to believe that people only want to succeed or want to fail; that this a black or white issue, and that there is no gray area. We want to think that there are only two types of people; the ones that succeed and the ones that do not succeed. People are not raised to believe that some people have more opportunities that open doorways to success that other people do not get. We want to believe that “if you wanted to succeed in this country, be you black or be you white, all you needed was desire, and opportunity” (Danquah, 229). Even though there are the ones that succeed, there are similarly two types of people that do not succeed.…

Introduction And He Dwelt Among Us: Teachings from the Gospel of John, by Pastor A.W. Tozer, was compiled from a series of sermons on the Gospel of John he had given over a year. These sermons were compiled and edited by James L. Snyder. Snyder notes, that “Tozer believed that John represented the best of the ‘mystical’ thinkers and along with the doctrinal emphasis of the apostle Paul these two provided the kind of spiritual experience that was healthy for maturing Christians.” Tozer, who many considered to be a modern-day prophet, served as a pastor with the Christian and Missionary Alliance for forty-four years.…

The arch tone of the title and the wit of the preface may blind readers to the real wonder of Egger's book: he's telling the truth. In a world of air quotes and the constant misuse of the word "ironic", Eggers is trying very hard to tell a difficult story. He writes of the death of his parents in the most unflattering terms, without the soft focus and belabored sentiment our culture has lead us to expect. The slow death of someone you love is sometimes horrible, and this story never denies that, or the way your mind escapes from that horror and focuses on trivia. While the writing may be self-conscious, it isn't pretending to be anything else, and the wonder is that Eggers is willing to accept everything that comes into his head, regardless…
