Malala Yousafzai: Civil Disobedience

The term civil disobedience means “refusal to obey civil laws in an effort to induce change in governmental policy or legislation, characterized by nonviolent means.”( The Free Dictionary) Theories on this term have been around for a long time. For instance, people like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. took up and preached their own theories on civil disobedience. While Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi's theories are still relevant, they are fifty plus years old and seem to lose the interest of kids of the modern age. To some peoples’ dismay there are events happening in the last decade involving civil disobedience. For instance, Malala Yousafzai, a young women, defends her right for education and in the processes undergoes an assassination attempt. Malala Yousafzai is an example of a civil disobedience that happened in the last decade. Bravely standing up and fighting for her right to education, Malala Yousafzai, survived an assassination attempt that brought attention to the unjust acts of civil disobedience towards women in Pakistan.
