Kant believes that it is wrong for us to use someone as a mere means. This means that it is wrong to deceive or threaten others. However, Kane states there is nothing wrong about using a person as a means. Therefore, I believe Kant would be okay with the interviews in today’s comedy shows.

For example, Jimmy Kimmel Live is a great late-night comedy talk show in today’s society. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, the interviewer and person getting interview acts as a means. The interviewer uses the person getting interview as a means to earn money. In addition, the person getting interview uses the interview as a means to express their opinions. Although TV shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live interviews random pedestrians, the show treats people in interviews

The media’s role in America is to provide an unbiased overview of current events happening in the world. But do we ever truly receive an objective view of any given situation? When a detective has information on a case, does the media let him lead a normal life? Or is he harassed by reporters day and night, in his own home?…

How many public speeches have you heard? Since I was a kid, I have been a fan of great public figures making historical speeches, especially during a time of crisis. Notably, one of my favorite public speeches was given on April 3, 1968, by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., entitled, “I’ve Been to the Mountain Top”, which was the very last speech he gave and is considered an iconic moment in American history. Keep in mind, Dr. King was assassinated the following day. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech, motivated individuals and intensified their passion and hope for equality, in a room full of disadvantage African-Americans.…

The emergence of the post-network era along with the rise of convergence in the media industry has brought along a series of changes in the way society views, produces, and critically engages with media. The increase of content targeted at niche audiences, edgy content that pushes boundaries, and legitimation of media content are changes brought on by the post-network era that bring representation and power to women.…

The portrayal of current events in the media wields a formidable power over the opinions of its viewers. By watching or reading the news, the recipients are formulating their own judgements on the content based off of the supposedly objective information given. However, if the media chose to broadcast false or biased news, it could affect the mindsets of the entire nation and rally support for a private agenda while misusing freedom of the press to spread lies. The media also has the power to choose which stories to broadcast and some important events are not relayed to the public at all because of personal opinions and agendas. Representation in the media is flawed because of the bias in which the news portrays people, events, and organizations.…

Media and Race: How it Effects Society For many years, the media has dominated the communication world. With the advancement of technology, media is constantly around more than one may realize. What one also may fail to realize is how much of a role the media plays on shaping today’s society and race relations.
