The good, the bad and the evil of standardized testing. In this essay you will learn why standardized testing is good for some, bad and evil for others. The good about standardized testing is it allows some students to be set apart from others these students do well on multiple choice questions, meaning that those students can see the multiple choice questions and when they see the correct answer it jogs their memory to the question. Test like the SAT and ACT help students that come from smaller high schools to be placed in better colleges where they might not have this opportunity, because bigger high schools have the ability for their students to be recognized just because of the school they are going too. Standardized testing acts as somewhat of an equalizing force, providing colleges with the only relatively objective data point with which to compare prospective students! As you can see it does have good points especially when it comes to college. How could there possible be any bad to standardized testing if there is this much good one might ask? The answer to that is you have students that learn differently which means some students over study for these test and when it comes time to take the test they panic and get confused everything runs together. Students who are sight learners will do better from an open book test where they can revert back to what they have been taught, with Standardized testing a student cannot do this they have to try and remember what they learned, some just cannot do this and score poorly on the test. Then you have student who do not understand what they are reading and need help understanding the meaning of certain words and sentences that have been paraphrased this type of student will not be able to adequately take the test without missing some of the questions. The answer is simple not one single teacher teaches the same as their college not one single teacher comprehends the same as her colleges every one is different so you will have teachers that teach only for standardized testing in order to make the mark which means this stresses out the teachers and the students to a point of total anxiety now with that being said you say how is this evil? The answer yet again is simple when you have stressed out students they are more likely to stop trying they will change their major just so they don’t have to take the test. Student will drop out of High School so they don’t have to keep dealing with the stress levels it pushes some to the point of they feel like they are a complete failure when the truth is they are far from a failure.
