According to LaSala (2005) first impression is very important. Often people make opinion about somebody not what this person know but how looks. Well dress employee convey higher knowledge and professionalism. How nurse present herself or himself at first contact with patient can be helpful to build up trusting relationship between them. Patients can think if she or he take care themselves, they will take good care of me.
Another important part of contact with patient is communication. According Black (20014) to be professional, nurse has to communicate clearly and understand another people. Lack of communication do to barrier language is very dangers to lack of information from patient during assessment and to patient with information about future treatment. Therefore, is very important to use professional translator to provide information about patient care, medication, future diagnostics, and follow up with nursing and medical staff (Black, 2014). Nurses should not use family members to translate medical information. The nurse do not know if family member has any medical terminology knowledge to be able to translate correct and not hiding any information. With today’s technology nurses can use phones to find translator, print patient educations flyers in different languages. English is my second language and sometimes I was helping my uncle with doctor’s visit but sometimes I was very uncomfortably to translate, special when my cousin was diagnosis with colon cancer. Working with other people and take care for our patient very often we forget what is important for us. According to Black (2014) after years working in stressful workplace and keep balance between work and life a lot of nurses get burnout. It is not easy to keep balancing between work, family, parents and friends. Nurses always feel guilty to forget about something, or not to do something. Working for Magnet hospital can be helpful to reduce stress in work. Hospitals who have this program are “nurses friendly” and give opportunity for professional growth. Another idea for better work –life balance can be flexible hours. According to Davis (20014) work from home, flexi-time, part-time hours can be profitable for both employee and employer. Mindfulness training can reduce stress at work. According to Zeller (2010) Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program improves mental and physical health. 1-2 hours first session and thirty minute monthly sessions can benefits employees, so hospitals should offer this kind programs for their
