Individual Reflection
Throughout the production of the video and group report, I contributed in terms of ideas generation and carrying out the plans. During the initial stage of the video production, we discussed as a group on the social issue to focus on. I suggested a few ideas and shared justifications as well as some scenes I have in mind for each idea. After we finalized the social issue I participated in the discussion to form our story plot by suggested some scenes and shooting angles from other public service announcement videos, dramas and movies that left an impact on me as an audience. Then, we drafted the script for each role, including the perpetrator, victim’s monologue and bystanders for both scenes with and without intervention.

Then, we distributed into three group, each focusing on a part in the report. I was involved in Part A, which explained the background of the social issue. Together with my group mates, I researched on the existing literature that defined and explained the theoretical basis behind catcalling. Besides that, I researched on the negative implication of catcalling which justifies the importance of addressing it as well as the potential outcomes of our video. After everyone in our group agreed on the points, we started writing the report. I helped elaborating points on Part C to strengthen our justification of utilizing the theories in our video. Despite having past experiences of being catcalled, I had minimal distressed from that and just felt unsafe at that moment. After researching on catcalling, it is shocking to be aware of the serious consequences to the victim, both physically and mentally. Some victims lost their lives when catcalling escalated into rape and sexual assault, whilst some suffered mental disorders including anxiety and depression long after the incident. However, the victims rarely receive support from the society; in fact, they are deemed as weak and pressured for that. This reminds me that people may have different reaction towards a similar event, and nobody’s feelings, behavior or cognition should be

When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. In addition, McAdams…

This class was beneficial to my future as a social worker. I was able to learn about different therapies I could potentially use when working with clients. When we were first assigned this paper I was a bit conflicted on what my theory was going to be since I felt that all therapies were important. But as we learned a little bit more in depth about how each of them worked I was able to relate to certain ones. The main therapies I’ll be using as a guide for my personal theory paper are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered, and Family/Systems Therapy.…

This week’s reading, “The Social Construction of Unreality: A Case Study of a Family’s Attribution of Competence to a Severely Retarded Child” by Pollner and McDonald-Wilker, really made me question my entire life and the role that my family has had in my education. I am in my second year at UCLA with a full scholarship for tuition and very minimal loans. Granted I have had some ups and downs with my GPA, I have overall been managing my grades. As a student, you can say I have been quite successful.…

Self reflection is the mental process that acquires knowledge and understanding through thoughts and experience which helps encourage self awareness. This essay focuses on assessing my objectives and how I have developed my skills from the beginning of this semester until now. At the start of semester A, I wasn’t confident in preparing for the skills sessions and workshops. I wasn 't always able to find the correct answers to the workshop questions set which made it relatively difficult for me to participate in lectures despite finding myself at the library every other day. I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…
