Throughout my first semester of college at California State University San Marcos I was enrolled in a course called GEL 101. This course is only for first-year students and it helps you ease into the phase of entering college. It assists students in a wide variety of ways including informing them on the resources available on campus, educating them on time management skills, studying and test taking strategies, and so much more. I will be explaining how the GEL 101 course has influenced my college career, what subject was the most useful to me and what I wish we would have covered, and the impact of the course regarding to my future of learning.
When I first enrolled in GEL 101 I wasn’t so enthusiastic as I was when I first started attending classes the first couple of weeks. I quickly learned that the environment that I was

GEL 101 has also helped me strengthen my character and my personality. Some of the things I learned in the course that can help me in regards to lifelong learning are defining the ways that I can learn more effectively, being more social with my peers, and my favorite one is knowing the rights and wrongs of being prepared to apply for jobs and internships. I feel like I did a good job in this course, not a great job but a good job. I have some personal family issues that I have been dealing with back at home so I have to make sure I have time for both my family and school.
Although, some may believe GEL 101 isn’t a course that is important or essential, to me, I believe it is very helpful. It helps students ease into being a college student and helps them adapt into the life of college student by informing them on beneficial ways of doing things. Not only did I make new friends throughout the course in the semester but I also learned helpful techniques that will benefit me very much here at CSUSM and also in the long run with

Upon completing all the assignments for Writing 101, I think I have undergone a significant amount of growth as a writer. Throughout the course there were many different assignments that I found to be challenging in their own ways. The design of many projects was much different than anything I had previously encountered, causing much more effort, and thought. Specifically, the rhetorical analysis and the proposal were two projects that took me outside of my comfort zone. Each project encompassed its distinct difficulties that ended up evolving my knowledge about writing.…

The first time, I enrolled in this class, I felt excited knowing this class would help on my grammar, so I can become a better writer. My first thought that cross my mind was this was going to be easy and it was. My last experienced with writing and English was okay because I mainly get a B or a C, but rarely I would get an A. I always been having trouble with grammars. My high school English teachers taught us about grammars and how to become a better writer. It was similar to what you had taught us in class because we always learned about grammar out of a book and we got tested after we been practice.…

Probably the two biggest things I’ve learned from taking English 1010 is summarization and citation. At the beginning of the class, I struggled with not trying to make my summaries sound like lists. As I kept practicing, I learned how to reflect my writing style and voice into my summaries, while still being able to effectively get the point of the original source across. I learned how to add citations to my writing when quoting or paraphrasing a source, something of which I did very little in my writing before I took the class. English 1010 is also the first class where I have written a full length literature review concerning a discussion around a certain topic.…

Writing has changed my perspective on various aspects of my life. Some of the essays that I have written in the past have opened doors to new ideas. These essays have helped me make connections I feel I never would have made without writing. I believe this is because I enter my deepest level of concentration when I write. This heightened level of concentration I reach when writing has allowed me to reflect on important areas in my life such as self-awareness and motivation.…

Not everyone who attends college are successful at completing the courses needed to graduate. For many reasons, college students are forced to drop out willingly, are withdrawn by administration, or simply lose interest in furthering their education. However, the college students who complete college successfully and make it to graduation share some habits that make the odds of being successful work in their favor. Many college students succeed because they make it a priority to attend and involve themselves in class sessions regularly, take control of their education, and nurture relationships with the instructors on their school campus. One of the most important causes of being a successful college student is actually attending class sessions regularly.…

In the result of completing my SPE 101 class, I’ve learned a lot of things in this class that I thought I would never know. The things that I’ve learned will help me in the present and in the future. Credibility is something that you need to become successful and it has to be part of you. According to “Public Speaking: An Audience-Centered Approach,” written by Beebe, credibility is based on the audience’s perception of a speaker’s competence, trustworthiness, dynamism, sociability. Self-Evaluation Essay Little did I know that I was going to learn a lot more than I thought throughout the semester in ENGL 1433. I began the course dreading reading and writing. I just wanted to be done with the class before the class began and go back to science classes. I never have considered myself a good writer or someone who was good at analyzing literature, it was never something I enjoyed. Despite these initial thoughts and preconceived notions, I did, for the most part, enjoy the class.…

Goal I The first goal of the program was to “Apply major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in psychology to prepare for graduate study or careers in which psychological training is relevant”(). Two classes met this goal, Introduction to Psychology (PSY 111) taken at Anne Arundel Community College, and Introduction to Counseling Psychology (PSYC 432) taken at the University of Maryland University College. Introduction to Psychology was the first psychology course I took many years ago. It was the class I took because I had an empty slot on my schedule.…

Before I began my Freshman Development Seminar course with Professor Furet, I believed that this class would not be of good use to me. The reason for this was because of my beliefs in self-teaching myself to learn the basics with additional help from other sources. However, it did not turn out the way I wanted it to be. Therefore, I had to pay to get taught what I could have done on my own, at least that is what I convinced myself then and there. Throughout my class sessions with Ms. Furet, I learned more than I could have ever imagined.…
