My Trip To High School Research Paper

I was just starting high school and my family had already started pressuring me about college and what I wanted to do in life. Within that chaos there was one thing that really had me intrigued, and it was my uncle telling me about the University of Illinois. He was the first person in my family to attend a University and I would soon be the second. Throughout my years in high school he’d always try to persuade me to go to this school by telling me stories of his time there along with the amazing opportunities that came with it. All I can say is that his nagging worked, he, at one point, had me convinced. Of course there were other factors that made me choose this University, and the on top of that list I would have to put my visit to the school. It was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had. I didn’t come on a normal visit that most students do where they go on a tour of the University. I would have to argue that my experience was a lot more enjoyable. I had a friend that was attending the school and he told me that I could come down and spend a weekend with him. So I packed my bags and drove to the University when I had some days off for school. The first day I was there was a Friday, and my cousin still had classes so he told me I could tag along and sit in class with him. To me the idea seemed terrible. I didn’t come to sit in class and learn, but I didn’t have much better to do so I went. After sitting through a couple lectures and discussions, I can honestly say that I made the right choice by going to class. This way I had the opportunity to see for myself how classes worked at the University. It had me scared but exited at the same time. For the rest of the weekend we had fun as well as explored the campus. Overall it was the best experience I had out of all of my visits. I grew up in Schaumburg, Illinois and attended Schaumburg high school. Throughout high school I’d say that about half my teachers attended this university and they always talked about how much they loved it and how great it was. So when the time came to look at which schools to apply to, the University of Illinois was one of the first schools I looked into. People always see this school as …show more content…
It wasn’t until after classes started that I started questioning my choices. I asked myself if I made the right decision by choosing this school, whether or not Biology is the right major for me, and I even went as far as questioning if I still wanted to go into dentistry. I’d always see my friends, who were Business majors, talking about how easy their major is and having little work to do, where as I would be working my butt of trying to do well on my Biology or Chemistry Exam. In the end I realized that my hard work and good work ethic would help me prevail, especially when I had to start taking upper level courses. In the end I felt as though I did make the right choice by choosing this school and that I need to thank all of those that helped me including my crazy uncle, enthusiastic teachers and my parents who supported my decisions and made sure I attended a school were I could be

It was always my mother’s dream to have all of my brothers go to college, but only one of them were able to enter at Chabot. This made me recognize that I shouldn’t take my education for granted because not all is given the opportunity.…

Prior to high school, my middle school recommended that I attend “Grant High School”, which was looked down upon by my parents due to its reputation. Grant High School only has a 78% graduation rate. My father had been planning on surprising me with an opportunity of a lifetime and began planning since I was in 7th grade. I left my friends and current life behind to move to a place called Oak Park to attend Oak Park High School, which is ranked in the top 100 public schools in the nation and a graduation rate of 99%. I truly believe this is the reason I am here at San Diego State University today, because I was given an opportunity I may not have received by attending Grant High School.…

Unlike many of my peers, my life story is slightly different. Many of my peers share the story of living in a single parent home, being homeless, violence, and poverty. However, in my case, living in a two parent household is strange to hear about to my peers. For me, living in a two parent household means more work because of my desire to receive a full scholarship. Upon my research, I noticed that many of my older peers would receive better college financial opportunities because of their life experiences.…

Honestly, I was less than excited to take this course. Writing 121 is a requirement for all Oregon Associates transfer degrees so it wasn’t like I chose to take the class for my own sake, and being alone having recently moved to Eugene assured me that I wasn’t going to find any familiar in the classroom or on campus at all. It’s not like I expected the course to be a breeze, but it sure didn’t seem like anything special. Having to announce my name change to the whole class wasn’t fun either, in fact it just reminded me of the reason I dropped out of high school in the first place.…

“They say that college is where you find yourself, but I feel more lost than ever.” Although this may be true, I began to think I was looking for something to blame. This quote replayed in my head, as I walked out of the counselor's office with both my parents along my side as I felt the vibe of their uncertainty with my decision to go back. Before it gets good, it gets more boring. Summer had started and it’s been a year since I’ve been to college.…
