Bin Laden expressed his basis for hostility against America in a London newspaper in 1996 when he described “the people of Islam had suffered from aggression, iniquity, and injustice imposed on them by the Zionist-Crusaders alliance,” in reference to the United State’s relationship with Israel as well as Arab countries they felt the United States was oppressing. They felt the United States directly opposed their religion because of the disasters that had occurred with their military occupation Iraq and the events that occurred at Guantanamo Bay. Many Muslims died during United States military occupation due to poor health conditions and lack of food, which al Qaeda interpreted as America against Muslims. Al Qaeda chose three targets in American civilization to disable or degrade the United States. Their targets were the commercial center, the military center and the legislative center of the United States.…

The world in crISIS Graeme Wood, a contributing editor of The Atlantic, describes in detail the underlying ideological and religious thinking behind Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIS. He searches and discovers they are a formidable force, drawn together by a coherent faith and ideology. By talking to experts around the world, including many Islamic State supporters, Mr. Wood has produced a compelling article named “What ISIS Really Wants” in which mainly he exposes that unless the West understands the religious and cultural background of the IS, there is no way to defeat it. Through the enlightening process of reading his article there are at least ten main points I will share in this essay, which I find extremely important…

The Islamic State has one goal, to create a New World Order, the caliphate. They want a world system which operates through only the Islamic form of norms and ideals. The same idea is evident in the World State; everyone thinks the same and no one questions it. Likewise, both can only separate people into two groups. In ISIS’ case, it is the believers and the non-believers, seeing the believers as superior and the non-believers as their enemy, anyone in between should either be the killed or forced to pick a side.…

I had heard, repeatedly, that he was a relative latecomer to the Palestinian cause, that he had essentially declared solidarity with them merely to gain popularity in the larger Islamic world. That is not borne out by this book. In his very first speech, dated to 1994, bin Laden is already sounding the notes that reverberate throughout this collection: the entire Muslim world is under seige, from Afghanistan, to Palestine, to Iraq, to Chechnya and Bosnia; the humiliation (and emasculation) of Islam by the western world is the implicit goal. Now, clearly, one can quarrel with his analysis, but such a message has broad appeal. The editor and translator are to be commended for striking just the right balance here; they provide imformation, really crucial information, without taking immediate sides and without claiming a false neutrality either.…

They have been compared to Al-Qaeda also, but in reality they are much worse and much more destructive than Al-Qaeda ever was. ISIS has taken Al-Qaeda’s beliefs and amplified them to a radicalism. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is the man responsible for starting Isis.
