I know many individuals that will not allow their children to be left alone with someone that looks as though they are of Arabic decent or of Muslim faith because they are scared that they are terrorists. In February of 2013, one article I found stated that not even 1,800 of the 180,000 killings in the United States have been caused by Islamic terrorism since 9/11. This article also states that every analysis on terrorism that has been preformed in the United States has shown that terrorists attacks by Muslims accounts for less than 10% of all terrorists attacks (Washington’s Blog). According to these statistics, is it really Muslims and Islamic terrorists that we should be afraid of? These statistics also prove that not all Arabic people are terrorists. Someone is more likely to be killed by anything else versus being killed due to Muslim or Islamic terrorists in the United States. Saying all people of Arabic decent or of Muslim faith are terrorists is like saying all White Christians are racist. Just because one is being discriminated against because of, his or her race or religion does not mean that they can use their race or religion as a weapon. By weapon, I am referring to the use of ones religion or race to be against or for something; an example of this, that most people can relate to or at least understand, is the argument that homosexuals should not be allowed to get married because it goes against the Bible. In the United States, we have religious freedom; this means that we have the right to preform any religion we want. Religious freedom can be defined as a shield because it protects ones right to preform their religion as they see fit; however, this right does not give one the power to discriminate against people that are not of their same faith. Throughout history, religion has been as a weapon in order for rulers and sociopaths to get what they want. King Henry VIII of England changed the religion of England in order to divorce his first wife and later on to appease his own wants (Henry VIII). ISIS or ISIL uses religion as a weapon.
