Abstract
Did you know that there are over thirty different kinds of shock; but upon those there is one major shock, Hemorrhagic shock that I will be discussing today. Hemorrhagic shock also known as hypovolemic shock is one of the most common kinds of shock. Hemorrhagic occurs when the body has insufficient blood volume to maintain adequate cardiac output. This can happen from GI bleeds, childbirth massive blunt force trauma. In our body we have our own way of supply and demand, our body is supplied with oxygen in demand for our cellular function and organ perfusion. When our body’s oxygen demand is over taken by supply to our organs your body is …show more content…
First you want to make sure the patient’s airway is not compromised, (if their airway in compromised administer oxygen or assist with breathing) ensure they are breathing normally, 12-20 respirations per minute. Oxygen delivery is must because without proper oxygen to our organs the patient cannot be treated for shock. To ensure the patient is breathing properly, besides vitals you can ask them simple questions that anybody should know, what day is it? What is your birthday? After you have established adequate oxygen is being delivered to the body ensure to check for circulation and bleeding. You can do this by checking blood pressure, and or apply pressure to the bleeding site. If the patient is experiencing the beginning stages of shock , he/she may have tachycardia but as the shock continues to progress he/she may have a drop in heart rate. If internal bleeding is presumed the patient may require surgery. Be sure to keep the patient calm at all times, elevate the patients feet, and give nothing by mouth. Replace fluid loss by administering and support blood pressure by either administering dopamine or norepinephrine. Be sure to get an order from the doctor before administering any medication. In severe cases some patients require complete blood
