The textbook describes small group interaction as the process by which three or more members of a group exchange verbal and nonverbal messages in an attempt to influence one another. (Tubbs, 2012, p. 7) The size of the group is as important as the group’s purpose. After reading chapter one, I discovered choosing group participant numbers which range from 3 to 15 suggests the smaller the number of participants the more attainable the group’s goal (p. 7). The functional points for effective small group interaction require all members to perform individual tasks which support the overall objective. Accountability is vital during small group interaction where members would need to understand their role and execute when required.
