Abstract
Being able to properly communicate when working in a group is an important skill for any person to learn. When people are in a group, the skills they learn are group learning, the ability to work in groups, sharing different values, resources, and new ways of performing tasks. Everyone in the group must learn how to overcome and combine these aspects. To be able to mesh the ideas all together, without causing any friction within the group is how one effectively communicates. People first learn these to have effective communication skills in an academics setting. This skill was “recently rated as one of the top two skills employers are currently looking for in job candidates (National Association of Colleges and Employers, 2016)” (Wade, Cameron, Morgan, & Williams, 2016). It is important component of a person’s college experience to give them the tools needed for employment. While working within a team gives those people new skills of problem solving, interpersonal communication and of course teamwork. Being able to communicate properly is key to any group performance (Paulson, 2011). One must ask appropriate questions so everyone in the group evaluates the information that is exchanged between people, it will help with the team performance, so the group’s goal can be accomplished. It is important to learn how to properly communicate because “employers expect new college graduates to contribute in “meaningful” and “innovative” ways once hired” (Paulson, 2011). It is not always best to say the first thing that come to mind but take a moment to think on what and how one would say something. A good communicator will know the difference between the type of language that can be used in public, private and work sector. Whether communication is written, oral or non-verbal, one must use their words, pitch and body language to send right message.
