It quite unbelievable, but an upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law is not granted all the rights of an American. And those people are gay and lesbian couples. This can not go on any longer, because it is too late, love won and gay marriage is legal. Gay and lesbian couples are citizens too, who should be afforded the same rights as same-sex couples. You might even be surprised on what some people think of the situation."Survey results suggest that people have forgotten why they were so opposed to the notion even as recently as a few years ago." If same-sex couples are paying taxes to help their society, like the same sex couples, they should be afforded the same rights. Gay and lesbian couples are finally suing the state because they are not getting protection they need only because they are gay. John Kusch had a few opinion of his own on this topic, "The whole argument really comes down to letting consenting adults do as they wish, provided they are not hurting anybody and keeping our beliefs out of the lives of others, just as we expect for ourselves." (Kusch 5) People are getting upset that they pay so much money even after not having much to begin with, and getting nothing good out of it. Their reason for that is that they say gay marriage is harming society. People are getting angry and wanting to go against gay marriage! People in our society today do not like things that they do not understand. A New York Writer wrote, “Emphasizing the degradation and unhappiness attendant upon the denial of gay marriage and, conversely, the human and social happiness that will flow from its legal establishment.” (Schulman 2). So when this new law comes around saying that gay marriage is legal in all states, while there are people who are all for it, there will always be a good chunk of people who will probably never be fully supportive of the gays and lesbians. Even if people start to agree with gay marriage the couples might get a little cocky and rub it in societies face. But it is very rare that that might happen! It is all a what if statement, we do not know how they might react when they finally realize everyone is on the same side, that is that could ever happen. Yes, people might get upset with the fact that this is now legal, but we have a lot more people who disagree with them and will stand behind the gay and

    On June 26, 2015, LBGT+ activist groups rejoiced as the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage believing that a ban of it violated the 14th amendment of the Constitution.
