The Bible is heavily influences Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude(OHYS). You can see each of the seven sins play a role in this book. They even show all the consequences of the sins. OHYS, can be best described as a “If you do this, this will happen,” type of book. The book doesn't have to much of an overall moral, but many of extreme mini lessons. The book begins with a description of the Macondo. Honestly it sounds more like Eden, from the quote “The world was so recent that many things lacked names,” (Marquez 1). This can be a compared to Genesis chapter 2 verse 19 which reads, “Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. These characters were Fernanda del Carpio, and Father Nicanor Reyna. Fernanda was overly concerned with taking the house over, when obviously it belonged to Ursula. Fernanda said that she was supposed to be a Queen one day, and her pride really got the best of her. She came in and wanted to cover up the mistakes, by closing the doors to the Buendia household. Fernanda was married to Aureliano Segundo. He ended up having an affair with Petra Cotes, and Fernanda became very envious of their relationship. This only made her worse. He began to completely neglect her. Then when he got into a little trouble eating so much food he almost died he wanted to show up at her doorstep. She helped him, and he left again. Fernanda stayed jealous of anybody she could throughout the whole book. Then you have Reyna trying to build a church, and everytime he gets enough money, he needs more. His greed was insane. He was outside levitating to “show” people that God was real, with his silver money collecting
