The marriage equality civil rights campaign achieved a great miles stone on June 26, 2015. The United States Supreme Court declared same-sex marriages to be legal in all 50 states. This change not only modifies what was known of a traditional family, but it also influences gender roles. Before, the structure defines the male being financially supportive and the female being moral and wholesome. Gay marriage creates the obstacle of defining a role for each partner, and how the children will interpret this structure. In memos exchanged between Andrew Sullivan and David Frum published in The Reader; Frum explains the threat same-sex marriage poses to society. David pushes that homes with same-sex parents will brew a generation of radical men and women. That the challenge of gender roles will cause a disregard for the purpose of marriage, and then family. In the same conversation, Sullivan does not argue against Frum forecast of an annihilation of the “American Family”. He encourages that family structure of same-sex marriage will change things, however, he presses that this change will not destroy the meaning of family but create a completely new concept.
