The first foreshadowing I noticed is at the beginning of the movie. The passage, “I grew up with the belief that the world belonged to him and that everything he said was true” (The Mosquito Coast 02:38) demonstrates the speaker, Charlie, is really believe his father at that time. Something terrible” (The Mosquito Coast 13:16) shows Ally’s little son Jerry has a bad presentiment about the thing is going to happen next. The foreshadowing builds suspense.
In the middle of the movie, Ally wanted to send ice to the aborigines who were deep in the jungle, but he filled. “Dad, there is a white man. There’s a white man in there” (The Mosquito Coast 1:00:19). When I saw there was a white man trying to hide himself, I thought something is going to happen. This is foreshadowing too, because when Ally backed to his home, he founded three missionary intruded the town. He broke the ice maker so that he could kill them. His town was destroyed. They had to leave the town.
“The Mosquito Coast” is a very meaningful movie. I think Charlie saw Ally as a god at the beginning, but because of Ally’s obstinate, Charlie became disloyal. Charlie found that the world was not belonged to his father and things he said weren’t all true. He wanted to take his family back to the US and even leave Ally alone because Ally was wrong. “Now he was gone and I wasn’t afraid to love him anymore” (The Mosquito Coast 1:54:11) In the end, Ally died and Charlie could love him as his father instead of a
