He was a devout follower of Marxism and believed that once a Communist revolution occurred in Russia, it would rapidly spread throughout the world.4 Although Lenin has many writings, one that helped legitimize the Soviet Union was his “Declaration of Rights of the Working and Exploited People.” In this work, he outlines the aim of the government which was to “abolish exploitation of man by man, to completely eliminate the division of society into classes, crush the resistance of exploiters…” Leon Trotsky played a vast role in carrying out the October Revolution and became the Commissar of War in the Soviet Union, defeating anyone who opposed the Bolshevik party.4 Trotsky wrote hundreds of phenomenal pieces, however in January 1905, he published “The Proletariat and the Revolution” which brought him to the forefront of revolutionaries.
