The human mind contains a battlefield between reality and perspective. Neck and Manz (2013) state, “We create our own psychological worlds by selecting what enters our minds (where the essence of human experience takes place) and what shape it takes after it does,” (p. 65). Our negative beliefs, assumptions, and thought processes influence how we perceive the world around us, determines the quality of personal and professional lives, the condition of our relationships, and impacts our potential. The following paper will analyze how I currently manage my negative beliefs, assumptions, and thoughts.

David Burns’ (as cited in Neck and Manz, 2013, p. 72-73) model of dysfunctional thinking provides us with any understanding of the types of distorted thoughts that can plague our ability to overcome challenging situations.
For example, I found that I overgeneralized my move to the elementary level as a permanent condition that would prohibit any advancement in my career. I felt I feared that this move would reduce the stature and respect in the educational technology community that I worked so hard to attain. A negative mental filter distorted my emotions, which focused more on the discomfort that I felt from my move rather than how I could serve the teachers and students at the elementary
