Proctoring requires a person to oversee students during a test or exam, in order to maintain the integrity of the results. It is a method of keeping cheating on tests to a minimum. Although it is not stated outright in the section on proctored exams, the use of proctors at UoPeople probably stems from their values regarding integrity. The University Catalog (2016) states that the university expects “all students, faculty, staff, and administrators to uphold the highest standards of personal integrity, honesty and responsibility.”…

A proctor has the purpose of guaranteeing that an exam is taken in compliance to UOPeople's regulations. UOPeople, as any education institution is expected do to, is committed to offer a meritocratic environment to anyone attending their courses. Having a student cheating during an exam would result in unfair judgement, and would earn him an undeserved grade; if we keep in mind that the purpose of the aforementioned institutions lies in building future professionals' skills, it becomes obvious how this could damage students and UOPeople's reputation, vanifying this intent. Criteria to choose an appropriate proctor is defined in UOPeople's Student Handbook: "be responsible adults, such as a local official, supervisor at work, librarian, or a…

The Crucible “The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and ability to affect those around him positively”(Bob Marley). John proctor was not a wealthy man, nor was he perfect, but he fought against the corruption within the court system. Proctor achieved moral integrity by admitting to his mistakes, and his refusal to confessing a crime he did not commit, he found self-respect when he did that, he would of rather died than be tortured his whole life based on a lie. Arthur Miller shows us that any man, good or bad can do something good and selfless. John Proctor was a well respected farmer in salem.…

There are many heroes in today’s society. Every person can have a different definition of what defines someone as a hero or something as heroic. Grant Wiggins, a local school teacher in A Lesson Before Dying and Jefferson’s friend, has his own definition of what it means to be a hero. It is arguable that there are two predominant heroic characters in the The Crucible, a drama written by Arthur Miller, and in A Lesson Before Dying, a historical fiction written by Ernest J. Gaines, John Proctor and Jefferson. John Proctor is the protagonist in The Crucible whose town is afflicted by the witch trials in 1692, and Jefferson is a main character in A Lesson Before Dying who is a black man on death row in the 1940s south.…

A “proctor” can be defined as “an impartial individual appointed to monitor or supervise a student during their examinations” (Office of Student Services, personal communication April 21, 2016) to ensure the exam is completed with academic integrity. “Proctoring” therefore refers to the act of invigilating a student during his or her exams, and a proctored exam is one that is done with a supervisor present. University of the People (2015) requires degree-seeking students to sit a minimum of eleven proctored exams in order to attain their degree, and requires this most likely to lend credibility to the qualification, as the proctor will be able to validate the identity of the student, and ensure the student does not cheat during the exam.…
