Football in America began in Ivy League colleges, specifically between Princeton and Rutgers in a game on November 6, 1869. Essentially, American Football began as a cross between rugby and soccer. Though in that very first game in 1869, the appearance of it was still close to soccer. Still the Ivy league schools continued to play and made plans to formalize rules in 1873 although Harvard refused to attend because they preferred a more rugby style of rules. Football season is the time for togetherness and excitement while even in the off season millions are waiting and preparing for the return of their favorite sport. Although not originally named America’s pastime, over the years football has become a vastly significant factor in so many people’s lives. Football is an incredibly moving sport. Football can hold people up when they feel down. Football is what can close the gap between parent and child in a time of distress. The sport not only provides much stability to a person’s life but it also is what has brought this country together for many years.
