Here in the United States there is a sport that virtually owns a day of the week. For many people, this sport, football is a way of life in a figurative sense. For very few, the most elite to put on the pads this game is literally their way of life. For playing this game, the reward is living the dream that all of them collectively dreamt from the time they first put on the pads in Pop Warner. Living this dream also comes with the perks of fortune and fame. Looked up to and loved as almost god like esoteric figures by the many thousand that live for this sport on Sundays. Many brain trauma’s, including early onset dementia have sprung from concussions, not to say that sport related activities are the soul culprit but with the vast majority of the incidence coming from that specific area the concussion protocol has become a hot topic. This new concern for the concussion protocol is so new that the NFL did not introduce it until as late as 2012. This article and the research is so important because, use of a virtual reality-based NP platform can detect lingering cognitive abnormalities resulting from concussion in clinically asymptomatic participants. Virtual reality NP platforms may compliment the traditional concussion assessment battery by providing novel information. In the article, Management of persistent cognitive symptoms after sport-related concussions, studies and treatments by speech-language pathologists at clinic are delivered to middle school, high school, and college students for the management of persistent cognitive symptoms after sport-related concussions. The astounding numbers listed above saying as many as 3.8 million sports related concussions happen per year are only more staggering when considering as many as 50% of concussions go unreported every year according to (Doolan, Day, Maerlender, Goforth, & Brolinson, 2012; Harmon et al., …show more content…
This study is so important because it shows how members of different sex’s deal with the concussion protocol. This is particularly important because the NFL, which is not just predominantly but a completely male area handles this protocol and issue compared to how the opposite sex in sports handles it. Concussion attitudes and beliefs were the strongest predictors of communication, and the small effect of knowledge on communication was transmitted nearly entirely through its effect on attitudes and beliefs. Much of the variability in communication was attributable to the sex of the coach and the sex of the team coached. Conclusions: these results serve as a starting point for the design of coach-targeted interventions that encourage communication about health and safety with
