Enrique Camarena, a U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Special Agent was abducted on February 7, 1985 near the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara, Mexico and shortly after that, Capt. Alfredo Zavala, a DEA source, was abducted from a car near the Guadalajara Airport. They were tortured for over 30 hours and died. The two abductions would be one of the largest investigations ever conducted by the DEA. The case would involve major forensic problems. Many suspects were arrested and tried for 8 weeks in the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, CA. The FBI and DEA personnel proceeded to the ranch to collect evidence discovering the soil from the body and the site did not match.
Several suspects, including State Judicial Police Officers were arrested and interrogated concerning the kidnapping.
