1.1 Structural Functionalism
Structural Functionalism is a basic perspective of sociology, which portrays society as one structure with several parts. Functionalism interprets the society as one which has several elements like the customs, norms, institutions, etc.
The Functionalism perspective is one of the oldest in society and the most effective one. It began in the 19th century. He invented the term called Sociology. Emile Durkhiem’s work is said to be the foundation of functionalist theory. It is inspired from the ideas of Emiley Durkhiem. According to him, the traditional families were held together because of their strong bonds and because they shared the same work, which resulted the society to remain one and follow the same values and symbols.Herbert Spencer is a British philosopher, he linked society to the organs of the body. His works imspired many theorists like Emile Durkhiem and Talcott Parsons.
1.2 Social Conflict
The Social Conflict theory focuses on the practice of using the power to make some body do a task forcefully in order to maintain order in the society. The context of social conflict theory is debriefed from the works of Karl Marx, according to whom the society was divided into groups who used to compete for their social resources.
According to this theory the strong and powerful people used to take advantages and created inequality. The common people were not treated as a part of the society because of the rule of the powerful people. The theorists linked to this theory are George Herbert Mead, John Deywey, William James and Charles S.Peirce. These theorists exclaim that all the living beings try to make physical adjustment with their surrounding environment. Though Symbolic Interactionism originated by Max Weber’s expression that every individual acts according to what they perceive from the world, it was George Herbert Mead who established this theory in America in 1920s. This theory examines the society by the exclaiming the meanings that the individuals establish on the objects and attitudes. Society is thought to be made with what it perceives or interprets through human behavior.All the human beings perceive each others behavior in their own way and create bonds between them. People believe in what they hear. For example , race and gender are such things which cannot be seen but people believe them because it has been made by the society. These made up social constructs makes us determine or take our decision to whom we should communicate with and
