Ellen DeGeneres was the recipient of the Mark Twain Award back in 2012. In 1997, Ellen DeGeneres came out as a gay woman. She was not only awarded for being a comedian, talk show host, and an actress, but, was also awarded for her courage. Many people, including celebrities look up to Ellen. “I’m pretty darn sure I could not have the career I have, that I could not live as openly as I’ve lived, if it hadn’t been for you,” said Jane Lynch on Ellen DeGeneres.
